Okay so I just wanted to say a little about myself... I am a 24 year old who has a lot of time to give and knows little about bully breeds save for the obvious english and french bulldogs or the boston terriers.... I am wondering what type of personality do american bullies have? I have heard they're supposed to be more tolerant than a pitbull(And pitbulls are apparently pretty tolerant), calmer, more loyal, more affectionate, etc.  I am not going to lie, I know squat about bully breeds except the three I mentioned... I want to know where to start.. also I am not really fit and I am not that active either, though I can devote two hours a day of walking around(I am diabetic, and I have artrial fibrillation and high blood pressure so I can't over exert myself I mean I can walk normally and go for a long time but I dont want to risk it by going over 2 hours at a time-- at most I could do is 3 hours 1.5 in the morning and the rest in the evening).

I sadly still live at home and will be for a long time. So I don't want to upset her with a dog that might attack her dog(not saying they would but I just want to be 100% sure)...

I am calm, patient, and loving towards animals. I would like to think that these dogs are playfull too... Originally I was thinking of a boxer but she did not want it because she was told that they have a potential to be destructive if not taken out daily.... Which I dont have a problem doing.. But my thing is what if I ever have to be away from home for a weekend and have to leave the dog with her.. Would she be alright if she walked it for an hour for those days? Also how strong is it? Because she's not very strong herself, I am not the strongest out there, but I Am not the weakest... So I say I am moderately strong?

Basically what I am looking for is a companion that I can walk around with and go to places with... I am also looking for it to be good on days I just want to lounge for a long time.

Hi
This is sort of a late reply I guess you will, I'm also new to this forum and looking for good threads to read about bullies. I've had pitbulls and a pug in the past and just adopted a 2 year old bully this past summer.. so far I can tell you that bullies are the sweetest dogs though they do have a tough looking exterior. They're pretty silly, loyal and definitely affectionate. Bullies were actually bred especially FOR their personality, character, stamina and drive, selective qualities chosen from the pit bull terrier and stafford. Great temperament, great with kids, total family dogs. I have a son myself and he just loves Tush. But these dogs do need discipline and must learn to be obedient from the time you start training with them. This also insures that the dog’s behavior and temperament is molded in a positive way.

If you already have a dog at home, I suggest you take him with you to find that companion and let them meet in an open area with leads on both dogs. Dogs are never aggressive by nature, they are only aggressive if someone abused them or trained them to be that way...which is unfortunate. They do need regular exercise, they love to run around and play fetch.. you can see it in their build! But all in all, bullies are great companions. If you're looking for a dog that can basically mold to your lifestyle and doesn't put so much stress on your body (you mentioned your diabetic) you may also want to look into pugs. Hope this helped
