thanks to my friends @ royal pitbull kennelsĀ  for these instructions on whelping boxes, i figured this may help some people here, i personally used this set up and was very happy with the outcome

Ok, we thought it was time for a new whelping box. We did this one the exact same way as we did out last one and it upheld 4 litters, and could have done more but we like to keep it fresh and new. smile.gif

TOTAL COST: $41.56 (not counting the polyurethane I already had and brush to put in on, as well as screws/nails) So that amount bought the particle board, lumber and a couple soda's to drink while putting it together lol.

What it's made out of:
Particle board, 4 sheets that are precoated with either a white base, or this time we used a wood grain look...ooooo fancy....lol not really. Anyway each sheet should be 48" long and 23/24" tall(you can buy several different sizes, but this size is ideal because its all precut). Also because of the coating thats on the particle board its very easy clean up with any type of cleaner/bleach solution.

You also need two 2x4's, not green treated either, they need to be non treated wood. I either paint them with killz & polyurethane OR this time I just put 2 coats of water based polyurethane so its easy clean up and the wook won't stain. These are for your pig rails.

Sorry for quality of the pics, my lighting was bad.

Mark where you want the entry door for the moma, we did ours centered at 14" wide and the bottom of the door is 9.5" up from the floor. Cut that out with a jig saw.

Now line up your sides nail them together, we used finish nails with a paslode gun, you can use screws but you chance the boards busting if you do.

Once your sides are together you need to measure your pigrail lengths, then cut them to fit, we do the 45 degree angle cuts on ours, but you don't have to.

Once you have them in place raise them up and screw in place...we leave a 4" gap from the bottom of the pig rail to the floor.
And this is your finished product! Just need to clean up the floor, disinfect the new box and its ready for moma & babies.
